Full Introduction:
In her observation of the mother/child relationship, Mahler concludes that the mother serves a very important role in the early phases of the child development and beyond. In sum, she argues that the core function of the mother is to provide the child with a strong sense of sympathy and rootedness which is reinforced by her availability. Mahler argues that it is vitally important for a child to develop a rich relationship with his/her mother in order to develop normally. Mahler’s views concerning the role of the mother can best be understood in terms of his three phases of child development.
