Full Introduction
Hollywood Shuffle (1987), co-written by actors Robert Townsend and Keenen Ivory Wayans, is comical satire about the kinds of role available to black actors in Hollywood. The film is directed and starred by Townsend who plays the role of wannabe actor, Bobby Taylor whose dream of becoming a successful movie star is deferred by the reality that the best roles available for blacks are those that sustain the jive-talking gangsta stereotypes. To deal with this crushing reality, Bobby envisions himself in a variety of roles typically played by white actors, including Superman, Rambo and even as the movie critics, Siskel and Ebert.
