Full Introduction
Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, is an interesting play which deals with the theme of murder, betrayal and revenge. Shakespeare uses rich language to capture the audience’s attention, express dramatic tension and the magnitude of the conflict ranging in young Hamlet. In Michael Almereyda’s adaptation of the play, Hamlet (2000), the story of Hamlet takes place in a modern, contemporary setting, completely removed from the Greek classical theatrical world of Shakespeare. This setting where dramatic action is carried not just by words, but by sounds, sights and visual effects; significantly enhances my understanding of the play in that I was able to experience the intensity of Hamlet’s psychological conflicts to a greater degree than in Shakespeare’s version.
